Early Life and Education
Mary Elizabeth Truss, professionally known as Liz Truss, was born on 26 July 1975, in Oxford, England. She attended Merton College, Oxford, where she studied philosophy, politics, and economics.
Political Career
Truss began her political career in 2010 when she was elected as the Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) for South West Norfolk. She served in several ministerial roles, including Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor (2016-2017), Chief Secretary to the Treasury (2017-2019), Secretary of State for International Trade (2019-2021), and Foreign Secretary (2021-2022).
Prime Ministership
In September 2022, Truss was elected leader of the Conservative Party and became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. She served in this role until October 2022 when she resigned following economic turmoil.
Policy Positions
Truss is a self-described fiscal conservative who advocates for free markets and reduced government intervention. She is known for her strong stance on Brexit, supporting the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union.
